The Netgear FS108P (part of the Netgear ProSAFE Unmanaged Series) is a compact 8-port Fast Ethernet unmanaged desktop switch with Power over Ethernet (PoE). Housed in a rugged 9-inch metal enclosure, this plug-and-play switch is engineered for small businesses, home offices, and remote branch environments that need a straightforward, budget-friendly way to expand network ports while deploying edge PoE endpoints.

The front physical layout provides a distinct two-tier port allocation mapping:Ports 1 through 4 (Fast Ethernet PoE Ports): These four RJ-45 copper interfaces are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard. Operating on an integrated shared PoE power budget of 53 Watts (up to 15.4W max per individual interface), they provide simultaneous data and DC electrical power over standard Category 5 cabling. This configuration allows clean, single-cable installations for wall- or ceiling-mounted hardware like wireless access points, VoIP phones, and IP security cameras.

Ports 5 through 8 (Standard Fast Ethernet Ports): These four standard copper interfaces provide data-only links for traditional networked equipment like desktop computers, network printers, or local storage devices.Architecturally, the FS108P is an unmanaged Layer 2 plug-and-play platform that requires no software installation or administrative setup. It features a non-blocking switching engine with a 1.6 Gbps backplane that utilizes store-and-forward switching architecture to maximize data integrity. Each port includes Netgear’s AutoUplink™ technology, which automatically detects and configures network speed, duplex choices, and cross-over cable types (MDI/MDI-X) on the fly.
